The Roving Clan

Links

Local Groups and Organizations:

Clan Desdin - This is a wonderful group of folks from the Cincinnati, Ohio area who focus mainly on Scottish culture. They are a performance troupe big on entertaiment, complete with sword fights!

The Battle of Grassy Run - The site takes a good while to load, but the pictures are great. Actually, this link is all photo, plus a place to send email for more info.

Robbins Crossing Historic Village

This wonderful site sits on the Hocking College campus, where it serves as a training facility for Interpretative Science students. It's also where several volunteers can be found during the summer months, demonstrating a wide variety of skills. Free, Robbins Crossing is open to the public every weekend between Memorial Day and the weekend before Halloween. They also schedule several special days for school kids, Girl Scouts, and other special tours. And for added fun, you can take a ride on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, which makes a half hour stop at Robbins Crossing twice a day on Saturdays and Sundays during the part of the year Robbins is open to the public.

Research/Information Sites:

ReConstructing History

Cariadoc’s Miscellany was a wonderful treasure of research information, and some fun writing - not to mention some incredible recipes. Does anyone know where it's gone?

Anna's LARP Craft Links Page: excellent source for links to just about any historical craft imaginable, especially those of the medieval or renaissance time periods. I absolutely love this site!!

Colonial America: a super huge listing of links to help a researcher along.

Colonial America 1600 - 1775, K12 Resources: Just what it sounds like, a huge listing of sources for the classroom....or researcher. It's a wonderful site full of all sorts of links.

Costume How-toprovides just that, plus a great list of links to other costume sources online.

DoHistory - Martha Ballard's Diary: A sitethat shows you how to piece together the past from the fragments that have survived. Our case study: Martha Ballard.

Eigtheenth Century Resources: Website linking together some of the best scholarly 18th century resources on the web, at least the best by a private individual. You'll probably not find any re-enacting links here, but you will find some good solid research.

Internet Library of Early Journals: A digital library of 18th and 19th century journals, mainly from Great Britain. To be included, journals had to have had at least a 20 year run of publication. Some pretty interesting stuff.

Cool Commercial Sites:

Busy Bobbins - Tom and Anita Winner demonstrate woodchip carving and lacemaking. This is the link to their store here in Athens.

Jas. Townsend and Sons: One of my favorite places to shop period stuff, other than the Fair at Mansker's Station, that is...

Sanctuary Traders: Looking for real comfits? They have 'em, along with Meerschaum pipes, teas, and other great stuff.

Wooded Hamlet Designs - Offers period-correct trims, buttons, and sewing notions.
